The Opportunity

Psionic, LLC. is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer who will work on the development team, define complex designs across space and defense platforms, enhance existing platforms, and work with leadership on continuous improvement opportunities. We value a diverse technology background, hands-on experience leading projects and aerospace software development. Headquartered in Hampton, VA we offer an opportunity for rapid growth in the hottest industry market segment in technology and engineering.

Job Description

  • The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Embedded Software Developer and provide software and firmware design and development efforts for second generation lidar to support the fast moving autonomous vehicle sector.
  • Projects will include lab demonstrations, field measurement campaigns, and prototype to be supplied to potential customers for testing in their systems. Work requires real time and offline algorithm adaption and coding board including the development of systems that incorporate microprocessors, microcontrollers, memory systems, complex interfaces, and field-programmable gate arrays.
  • Designs must perform under stringent aero and space environmental conditions. Highly-integrated sensors and supporting electronics will be necessary to achieve high performance requirements for our demonstration and flight units. This newly developed lidar and improved signal processing systems will result in a far reaching impact in the field of autonomous vehicles.
  • The work involves coding, complex algorithms, driver development and implementation, software and firmware design, integrated optoelectronic, high speed electronics and software testing and debugging, high reliability techniques, signal processing, and in-situ, full system testing of instrumentation systems and navigation algorithms. These will be used for detecting, recording, measuring, or controlling physical conditions, phenomena, and environments encountered in automotive, aeronautical and aerospace development programs.

Major Responsibilities as an Embedded Software Developer

  • Design, code, and test signal processing algorithms, command and control software, low level device drivers using SPI, I2C, RS-232, RS 485 and Ethernet interfaces with hardware systens that include microprocessors, memory systems, complex interfaces, microcontrollers, programmable logic devices, and field programmable gate arrays.
  • Design and test advanced digital systems implemented in Very High Speed Integrated Circuit (VHSIC) Hardware Description Language (VHDL)
    • Target implementations include input/output systems, controllers, memory interfaces, complex interfaces, microcontrollers, programmable logic devices, and field programmable gate arrays.
    • Develop, demonstrate, and verify designs in MicroSemi and Xilinx field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
    • Simulates digital circuits (behavioral and timing) to ensure that performance, timing, and power requirements are all satisfied.
